Your phrase (Моя любимая спортсменка) is absolutely correct. In Russian, we say "я люблю эту девушку" (I love this girl), and also "я люблю апельсиновый сок" (I like orange juice), "я люблю своего кота" (I like my cat). The difference between loving and liking depends on the context. Your phrase is normal for Russians.

Yes, "спортсменка" goes well to a teenager even. Any age female, who is going in for sports, is "спортсменка".
