I'm on a war game and this Russian person tells me this...В анке в первую очередь прокачиваем защиту пехоты за ресурсы
What does it mean?
by Demetrius, 2017-02-28, 11:45  like dislike  Spam?  176.49.228...
"В анке" - I don't understand, although I am native Russian. It is slang maybe. "В первую очередь прокачиваем защиту пехоты" - it means "we are doing defense of infantry more more strong". "За ресурсы" - "for resources".

"Прокачивать" - it is gaming slang that means approx "gain more skills", "do more strong" and so on.

English translation of handwritten Russian?  #863936
by Truhachev (RU), Last modified: 2017-01-31, 19:34  like dislike  Spam?
Text in Russian:
Небо такое нежное-нежное, как твои волосы, вечером оно бывает розовым,
и напоминает мне о тебе, морской ёж.

In English:
The sky is so gentle (or tender), just like your hair.
Sometimes it is pink in the evening and reminds me of you, sea  urchin (or sea-egg).

With kind regards
Understanding a sentence » answer

Hi everyone,
I have difficulty understanding this:
"Автор отдаёт себе отчёт в том, что "приземлять" учебное пособие [2] и тем самым "наступать на горло собственной песне" — в высшей степени неблагодарная задача. Единственным оправданием может служить интерпретация данной части II как отклика на запросы студентов — отклика, давно подготовленного, но реализованного с большой задержкой лишь по внешним причинам. "

The author is describing his motive for writing a textbook, and "[2]" is the reference to another book.
Could you please provide me with an English translation? Thanks a lot!
by valerisivokon (RU), 2018-02-18, 21:45  like dislike  Spam?
The author realizes that "landing down"* a manual/textbook and, therefore, "stepping on the throat of one's own song"** is a most ungracious/unrewarding task. The only justification can be found in treating this part II as a response to the requests*** of students - a responst that has been prepared since long ago, but implemenmted with a long delay due only to external reasons.

*landing down - this word can have a number of meanings or shades of meaning in Russian, but in tis case, it mosly likely means "to make more 'material', less spiritual, less lofty", something like that. I suppose it also implies stating the ideas in simpler terms, making it easier to understand.
*stepping on the throat of one's own song* - an idiom meaning someting like "forcing yourself to do what is needed to be done or to act in a way you need to, instead of doing what you would be happy to do"
***the Russian word translated as "requests" here can also, depending on the context, mean "needs" (as in spiritual/educational needs).

Hi Katy!
за одиночество не стоит всех корить.
ищи вину в себе. а не снаружи
один не тот, кто всеми позабыт,
а тот, кому уже никто не нужен

Here is my version:

For your loneliness you don't need to reprove all the people,
Do seek the guilt inside and not outside yourself.
A single one is not the one who is forgotten by everybody,
But he is the one who doesn't need anybody yet.

Best wishes

hat knitting pattern » answer

I found a hat knitting pattern that I like but the page is in Russian.  The page is here I tried using Google to translate but there are still a few words that don't translate or don't translate correctly.  If anyone could help make sense of it I would appreciate it.  To translate it, I'm guessing you might have to be familiar with knitting too, thanks for any help on this.

I got as a gift this poster from Soviet illustrator Yuri Vasnetzov. It's a nice picture with animals crossing a bridge and on the bottom of the poster there is what I assume is a little poem for children, but I can't translate it.

It reads:

Сколочу мосток,
Серебром замощу,
Всех ребят пущу.

You can see the picture here:

Could you please help?

Thank you !

Сколочу мосток,
Серебром замощу,
Всех ребят пущу.
На мосту сидит комар,
Комариный генерал.
Важный, усатый,
Жених богатый.
     - Приходите, гости званые
       На комариные гуляния!
Хотите - летите, хотите - бегите,
       Только прошу вас -  спешите!

I think that's the whole poem! Thank you :)

Yes,it's Russian. The text has 3 words: В ДЕНЬ АНГЕЛА ( V DEN ANGELA). Literally it means: At (your) Saint’s day( or Name Day). This cup is a gift given at somebody's Saint’s(name) day( maybe a child).

Before, a child got the name from the Church, during the  christening . It was chosen not at random, but according to one of several rules. Most often, the child has been named in honor of the saint who had been memorized at the birthday of the child or the day of nomination, as well as the day of baptism. For girls it was allowed offset for a few days, if there was no memory of holy women. With this choice, the birthday and еру name day often coincided and were joined together  in the minds. Until now, birthday children are called those who celebrates a holiday, but Christians celebrate birthday party in honor...

Information about a change in the guidelines regarding delete votes » answer
by Paul (AT), 2016-06-27, 17:49  like dislike  Spam?
The basic rule in GL 3 is "Always confirm the first correct posting!". So far, when there was no completely correct posting, and someone voted for a deletion, this delete vote was the first correct posting, so it had to be confirmed. However, most of the contributors understood this differently or didn't want to comply with it, for reasons I understand. In the last months this rule was challenged several times, which caused a lot of discussions. In the end I came to the conclusion that the vast majority of the community wants less strict delete rules. After discussing some text suggestions (forum: #846903), the following rule was accepted and is now effective:

+Always confirm the first correct posting! [...]
A [del] vote is considered a correct posting if no previous posting (input, vote or comment) contained...
