Я ничего не хочу доказывать, я просто хочу жить; никому не делать зла, кроме себя. » answer
by hallamittuna (UN), 2015-01-19, 19:31  like dislike  Spam?
Hello, mine here isn't a problem of translation but more an issue of right source of the sentence.

I have the russian, english and italian version of it (by Leo Tolstoy), but googling it on internet I found connections with Anna Karenina (ita) and with War and Peace (eng), depending on wich language I'm searching off.
So my question is: can anyone tell me for sure the source of this quote?

RU: Я ничего не хочу доказывать, я просто хочу жить; никому не делать зла, кроме себя.

EN: I simply want to live; to cause no evil to anyone but myself.

IT: Io non voglio dimostrar nulla, semplicemente voglio vivere; non far del male a nessuno, eccetto a me.

And another question, once the source is clear can anyone please direct me to a link of an original russian version such as a free ebook or something?

Tnx!!

Translation to English of the Russian Abbreviations on this site. » answer
by duncan3001 (GB), 2014-12-13, 00:49  like dislike  Spam?
I am English and am a beginning learner of Russian. I have just very recently signed up for this site. On looking up a word, I see the Russian, and click on 'abbr' to see what an abbreviation might mean. The list of abbreviations, beside the Russian word, are in Russian AND SO IS THE KEY TO THEM. A few I can grasp, by looking up the words on this site or Google Translate. But very many cannot be clarified by recourse to either source. Therefore, HELP!
Does anyone have and is willing to share / know where I can find   an English translation of the full list of Russian abbreviations?
Many thanks in advance to anybody able to assist. And thanks for reading this query.

By order of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for completion of contract.

I think it is a medal given to kontractniks, that is, volunteer servicemen who contract to serve for, I think, four years.  Awarded on completion of service.

Someone else might know more about the correct terminology here but as this question hasn't been answered yet I thought I'll give it a try and provide a literal (word-by-word) translation:
- невроз навязчивых движений is the whole term, consisting of these three words:
- невроз = neurosis
- навязчивых = of obsessive, of compulsive (genitive plural)
- движений = movements (genitive plural)

Hi I have to give my new black Russian terrier a name for registration. I was using Google translation to translate the name / phrase "Prince of Diamonds" at the time I thought it translated as " Kryaz' Brilliantami ". Now I'm not so sure.
I am now getting
Prints Briliantami.
The closet I have got to Kryaz'  Brilliantami, is Knyaz'ya Brilliantami ( princes of diamonds )

So my question is does Knyaz' Brilliantami or Kryaz' Brilliantami translate to prince of diamonds.

Thankyou, I hope I haven't confused anyone.
Regards Andrew.

First, I'd like to tell you I like Russian terriers very much.  I have had no ones, but I had two female giant schnauzers.  You know these breeds are very much alike and similar. Even in outward form and origin. They are very intelligent and understanding. They were my real friends. As for your question. There are two words for English "prince":  князь  OR   принц, [knyaz']  OR  [printz]. So I think the second one sounds more romantic. Well, also there are two words for "diamond": алмаз (rough diamond)  AND  бриллиант (cut diamant), [ʌl'ma:z] [brili'a:nt].
But there are a lot of grammatical cases (six) in Russian, so Google made a mistake. I know why. It's because it "thinks" that a by-preposition should be followed by the instrumental case in Russian. It often happens, but not now. One should use the genitive...

"Spasibo!!!!ya jdala tvoego komentariya"  means:
"Thanks!  I looked forward to your comment."  OR  "Thanks! I waited for your commentary".
(A female writes).
Russian:  Спасибо!  Я ждала твоего комментария.
